About the Journal

The journal "Empirische Sonderpädagogik" primarily publishes empirical research papers, replications, and extensions of important work from the entire scientific field of special education. However, other types of contributions are also welcome (see below). The contributions represent a wide range of professional perspectives and different methodological approaches. They cover the entire spectrum of special needs education, in particular

  • all forms of disability and their prevention,
  • forms of marginalization and disadvantage in educational institutions,
  • inclusive education and upbringing,
  • the entire lifespan,
  • different pedagogical and institutional framework conditions, learning environments, and informal pedagogical settings.

The main criteria for the review and selection process of the contributions are their significance for the field of special education, its further development, and the work's scientific and methodological quality.

The editors and the editorial board of "Empirische Sonderpädagogik" aim to publish a high-quality, peer-reviewed journal that contains the most significant and up-to-date research in special needs education.

"Empirische Sonderpädagogik" is committed to the principles of open science, particularly sustainable open access. All articles are published in Open Access (Diamond OA) and permanently archived in the subject repository pedocs shortly after publication. "Empirische Sonderpädagogik" contributes to the further development of innovative publication formats and review processes.
